South Devon Marine (formerly South Hams Marine Industries) was originally formed in 1994 to promote the area as a centre of Marine Excellence to create a higher profile and image and to develop partnerships with allied bodies...
Its main objectives are:
- to promote inter-trading and the area as far and wide as possible.
- to preserve and enhance the local marine sector
- to ensure best use of local products and service
The aim of South Devon Marine is to encourage high quality service in various fields of the Marine Industry and to ensure that the area's unique reputation for excellence is maintained and enhanced. The Association now represents all sections of the leisure and marine industry with more than 60 members.

Members gain a 10% discount on all their commercial insurance - more details on joining. Similarly, members can benefit from lower gas and electricity costs through the association scheme. Publicity
The Trade Directory is published annually and distributed from exhibitions, Harbour Offices, chandleries, Tourist Information Centres, etc. Press releases are made by the association to promote members, their news and the progress of the association itself both to the local and national press and broadcast media.
Events
Promotional opportunities for exhibitions, shows and festivals which promote the excellence of the South Devon Marine members to compete worldwide. We participate each year at the Devon County Show and Southampton International Boat Show. We also hold a 'Try a Boat' weekend in May where members of the public can try their hand at boating, in all its forms, at no cost. This year's event will be at Brixham Marina over the first May Bank Holiday weekend. SDM members exhibit at the London Boat Show and local agricultural events.

Giving important information on matters concerning the Marine Trade - e.g. RCD regulations.
Meetings
Regular members' meetings are held to which all members are invited and the input from members is encouraged and appreciated. These meetings constitute an excellent opportunity to network within the Marine Industry. Directors hold formal Board Meetings quarterly and the AGM is open to all and has more of a social feel about it.
Partners
We have developed partnerships with allied bodies such as the Cornwall and Plymouth Marine Networks, South Hams, Teignbridge and Torbay Councils, Business Link, Marine South West, British Marine Federation, etc. to form an effective body that could influence policies.
Training
As a member you are entitled to reduced rates for Business Link's various courses while Marine South West's new Marine Skills Centres at Poole, Plymouth and Falmouth are open for use by all members. To receive South Devon Marine membership details please submit our contact form.
